Take Action! Join Tomorrow's National Call-In Day to protect Housing
and Homeless Programs!
With a government shutdown date looming after April 28th, Congress
and the White House only have a few days left to finish a spending bill for the
rest of 2017. As our nation’s leaders prepare for final negotiations, join faith and community leaders for anational call-in day on Wednesday, April 26
to tell your members of Congress to pass full spending bills that protect
affordable housing and homelessness investments.
The prophet Isaiah calls us to create healthy communities
through practicing justice and compassion—not just within our churches, but by addressing
the larger society. Our country’s housing programs work together with our churches
to help stop homelessness, curb the causes of eviction, end hunger, and give
low-income families the resources they need to thrive as God intends. If
funding for departments like HUD and the Department of Agriculture are left
flat, rising rent costs and other factors could cut up to 100,000 housing
vouchers for people in need of assistance.
Share how your faith informs your
vision and goals for our communities! Reach your lawmakers toll free at the
Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121. You can also encourage members of your
community to take action, and learn more about homelessness and the budget at
the ELCA Action Center.
