Advocate for federal programs that work to ensure every child of God is able to live a safe and dignified life!
A week and a half from today, members of Congress
will return to DC after a month long recess for in-district work. Looking
ahead, there are many competing priorities with which lawmakers will have to
grapple. At the top of their list is the need to pass a federal budget for the
2016 financial year, which officially begins on October 1.
Before Congress adjourned for August recess,
Appropriations Committees of both the House and Senate, responsible for
allocating funding for federal programs, approved most of the 12 annual funding
bills. However, both chambers failed to bring these bills to the full floor for
a vote. As a result, lawmakers must immediately turn their attention to passing
a budget when they return in September.
As part of this
budget process, Congress will decide how to fund programs that help to
alleviate hunger, poverty, and the impact of climate change both here at home
and around the world.
In this
providential moment, we have the opportunity to impact policy makers with our
unique voices, perspectives and experiences, and give light to the extreme
challenges many of our brothers and sisters face on a daily basis.
