Speak out this Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
“It is not my enemies who taunt me—I could bear that;
it is not adversaries who deal insolently with me—I could hide from them. But
it is you, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend, with whom I kept
pleasant company; we walked in the house of God with the throng.” (Psalm
55:12-14)
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to be
extra mindful and prayerful for the many unspoken victims of domestic abuse.
We come together as Lutherans to speak against and act to
end violence in domestic relationships.
Domestic violence affects
children, elders, teens, and adult women and men. Among adults, women everywhere are the most
at risk to beating, sexual abuse, rape and murder. Help to create greater awareness among
members of our church about all forms of gender-based violence that threaten
the lives and safety of so many people.
“Gender-based violence is an ancient sin that for thousands
of years has harmed countless women, children and men. It is a sin that
Christians need to recognize, understand and confront, for our religious
history also bears its stain.” (ELCA social message on Gender Based Violence)
As our country approaches an election marking historic
levels of divisiveness, hatred, and fear, let us join together in unity against
