ELCA World Hunger Series

The Chicago-based ELCA World Hunger Team and the Metropolitan Chicago Synod, invite you to root for our hometown team during the ELCA World Hunger Series!

Help bring good luck to a certain Chicago baseball team by giving goats to break the famed "Billy Goat Legend" that has loomed over the northside team since 1945.

Goats are one of our favorites when it comes to sustainable development. Why? Because they can go where others can’t – what an encouragement for our hometown team! We’re milking this series for all it’s worth, because fresh goat milk can also provide daily nutrition for children and their families. A local team win will certainly transform the outlook for Chicagoland, and we hope you’ll partner will us to give gifts of goats to transform other communities toward a just world where all are fed.

Give today and throughout the series to support your team and to support a good cause.

  • $50 - Give a goat!
  • $108 one dollar for every year the Chicago baseball team has been without a Series win
  • Pick your favorite player and give the amount of the jersey number or make up your own creative pledge for strikeouts, homeruns, etc.

About ELCA World Hunger

As a long-standing presence in communities in nearly 60 countries, including the United States, ELCA World Hunger is deeply relational and rooted in listening. We steer clear of “one-size-fits-all” answers and have enormous respect for local context, local expertise and local ingenuity. Your gifts support tailored solutions – in areas like health, water, income, education, food security, and more – that can put an end to hunger for the long term.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States with more than 3.8 million members in 10,000 congregations across the nation and the Caribbean.
