Join Kara's Journey in Mexico!

Hey Everyone!
As of this update, I have been in my site placement of Cuetzalan, Puebla in Mexico for almost 2 months. I have been spending my weeks as an English teacher in a local Middle School- and wow what an adventure that has been! I have been living with a woman named Gloria, and her family mostly lives on the same street as us- meaning that the house is never quiet!
Teaching is a challenge, and speaking Spanish (a language I have been learning off-and-on since 2nd grade) all day long is definitely exhausting. However, the relationships I've formed, the conversations I've had, and the incredible community here in Cuetzalan has made those long days so memorable and important. I am so excited to continue to learn this year!
Thank you for joining me and for your support!
About Young Adults in Global Mission
The ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program provides young adults, ages 21-29, the opportunity to grow in their faith and work in partnership with our global companions. Young adults in the program serve in churches, schools and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina/Uruguay, Australia, Central Europe, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, and the United Kingdom.
The total cost for one young adult in the program is $15,000. Each young adult is tasked with raising a minimum of $5,000 to help support their year of service. The ELCA commits to raising the additional $10,000 per volunteer through generous congregations and donors. If more than $5,000 in gifts is received, the additional funds will be help to support other young adult volunteers and ensure that there is a sustainable source of revenue for future the Young Adults in Global Mission program.
Thank You!
I am so excited to share my journey with you all- and will be sending out newsletters throughout my year with some thoughts and stories and updates, and sharing experiences when I get home next year.
This is a program I have been excited about for a while now- ever since I learned about it while working at camp a few years ago. The prospect of global service and building relationships to build understanding and combat ignorance is so exciting for me, and I sincerely thank you for joining me in this journey.
Blessings,
Kara
