Hello! My name is Abbie Doran and I am excited to announce that I have accepted the opportunity to serve as a Young Adults in Global Mission volunteer in Jerusalem and the West Bank, starting this August.

About Me

I grew up on the west coast in a suburb of Seattle, Washington, but I have called Minnesota home for the past 11 years. I graduated from Rosemount High School in 2019 and started my college education at Gustavus Adolphus College that fall. During my time at Gustavus, I was a member of the Gustavus Dance Company and the Gustavus Choir, the Technology Chair for Student Senate, a Gustie Greeter, a worship coordinator for the Sunday Worship Community and percussionist for the Bothersome Preachers Club (worship band), a student worker in the Chaplains Office, and a tutor and teaching assistant for both the Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics department and the Theatre & Dance department. Through these experiences, I was able to explore many interests and live into many different parts of my vocation. I discovered new passions and developed an understanding of the importance of connection and community. This spring, I graduated from Gustavus with Bachelor of Arts degrees in mathematics and computer science, and minors in dance and economics.

As I explored options for life after college, I was excited by this opportunity to expand my worldview. I have personally experienced the power that human connection can have in people’s lives – the impact it has had on my own life as well as the lives of those around me. My journey has brought me to a point where I am ready to be present. In this next year, I am eager to learn from, listen to, and love God’s people and creation through global service.

The total cost for my year of service is $15,000 over about 10 months. A donation of $50 supports me for one day, $350 supports me for a week, and $1,500 supports me for a month! About Young Adults in Global Mission

The ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program provides young adults, ages 21-35, the opportunity to grow in their faith and work in partnership with our global companions. Young adults in the program serve in churches, schools and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina and Uruguay, Central Europe (Hungary), Jerusalem and the West Bank, Mexico, Senegal, and the United Kingdom.

The total cost for one young adult in the program is $15,000. Each young adult is tasked with raising a minimum of $5,000 to help support their year of service. The ELCA commits to raising the additional $10,000 per volunteer through generous congregations and individual donors. If more than $5,000 in gifts is received, the additional funds will help support other young adult volunteers and the future of the Young Adults in Global Mission program.
