Please support my call to serve as a volunteer for the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program!

Hello! My name is Carolina and I have been living in Cambodia for just about a month. This year I am living out what YAGM calls accompaniment. Which basically means I have 10 months to be present with the Lutheran Church of Cambodia, get to know the people here, and represent the support of the ELCA for their ministry. I will be working at a hostel in Phnom Penh where students from outside the city come to live while they study. I will be an English language partner, music teacher, bible study and worship participant, and other duties as assigned that I don’t know yet. 

I will also be sharing what I have learned and experienced with you via the newsletter I will be sending out every two months starting on Sept. 30. I am so thankful for your support of me with curiosity, prayers, and encouragement.

Many have also supported me financially, which I am so grateful for. I have already fundraised the $6,000 required of the program. Thank you! I will continue to fundraise to support other YAGM and the program at large throughout the year. 

About Young Adults in Global Mission

The ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program provides young adults, ages 21-29, the opportunity to grow in their faith and work in partnership with our global companions. Young adults in the program serve in churches, schools and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina and Uruguay, Cambodia, Central Europe (Hungry and Serbia), Mexico, Senegal, and the United Kingdom.

The total cost for one young adult in the program is $18,000. Each young adult is tasked with raising a minimum of $6,000 to help support their year of service. The ELCA commits to raising the additional $12,000 per volunteer through generous congregations and individual donors. If more than $6,000 in gifts is received, the additional funds will help support other young adult volunteers and the future of the Young Adults in Global Mission program.

A gift of $50 is all it takes to support a year of service! You can support a YAGM for one day for $50, one week for $350 or even a whole month for $1,500.
