As I begin this day marking my 60th (wow) year on earth, I give thanks for this wonderful life. My thoughts go to my mom and dad, Jim and Sammy Mayer, missionaries in Ambur, South India, where I took my first breath of life on June 29,1958. With their lives, (with Mom still here at 93), they leave a legacy of service, brotherhood and sisterhood, as witnesses to the Living Water and Living Word that has held them for all their years. 

I have been blessed to be, at some point in my life and work, in the company of many of you who will read this, as friends or colleagues in music or audience members from the stage. Regardless of your affiliation with a certain denomination or faith, I am privileged to call you my extended family. I have been a proud member of the ELCA for many years. They do great work as the hands and feet of God’s love, working for healing and harmony around the world. 

In my 60th year, I look forward to making more music, but my deepest hope remains, to paraphrase St. Francis, to be made an instrument of the Lord’s Peace.  

Will you join with me to raise funds to make a powerful impact on world hunger? No amount is too small. No gift is refused. We’ll have some fun with this too. In thanks for your help, we’ll be offering CD’s, house concerts and more. Through these efforts, you and I will be part of making a difference and pursuing a world of justice where all are fed. Together, we can accomplish much more than we ever could alone.

“The lack of access to clean water is one of the biggest challenges to overcoming poverty. It’s also one of the most powerful opportunities to create change. With a simple well, (which costs $2,500) or spring box, as many as 500 families gain access to clean, safe water. Communities are healthier. People spend less money on medical expenses and more on food and education. And instead of spending hours each day gathering water for the family, women and children have time for work and school. Talk about a future filled with hope!”

Your gift of $60.00 dollars (one dollar for each year) will really help us achieve the dream of having clean, drinkable water for families. When you make a gift of $60 or more you’ll receive a copy of my cd “Stirring Up the Water.”  

I want you to know gifts of all sizes are needed in this venture. If you want to give $6, that’s great. If you want to give $600 that’s cool, too. Together we can do more. My goal is to raise a total of $60,000 ($1,000 for each year so far)! And that will enable us to raise 24 wells, which will change the lives of 12,000 FAMILIES!
