Central Europe

Pay it forward for Young Adults in Global Mission! Through the #YAGMForward campaign, you can help bolster this ministry at a key moment in its history, paying it forward for the next cohort of volunteers.

Your support is especially needed right now. While YAGM is unable to send volunteers due to COVID-19 this year, the vital work of this program continues as YAGM country coordinators partner with our global companions during a pandemic. We need your help to sustain and strengthen the YAGM program for the present and the future.

Give a gift to Young Adults in Global Mission in honor of the YAGM Central Europe country program today. Our goal is to raise $15,000, and you can help us get there! Your gifts will help ensure that this church can continue to accompany our companions, uplift leaders and be church for the sake of the world.

About the YAGM Central Europe Country Program

YAGM volunteers in Central Europe are invited to serve alongside our companions in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary, the Slovak Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Serbia and nonprofit organizations supporting the empowerment of Roma people. Roma people have been part of Central Europe for hundreds of years. While Roma people have their own ethnicity, they also have adapted to the context in which they live. Tragically, throughout history Roma people in Europe have faced terrible oppression, which the Christian church has participated in to this day. YAGM Central Europe works with its partner churches and organizations to provide inclusive and empowering projects and ministries with Roma people.

The Lutheran church in Central Europe is one of the smaller denominations in the region, yet it has a rich history of religious practice and societal engagement. YAGM volunteers in Central Europe are encouraged to actively participate in a Lutheran worshiping community. Each volunteer serves with Lutheran diaconal or educational ministries as well as nonprofits and/or other Lutheran ministries that empower Roma communities. Contexts of service include small towns and large cities.
