Support our ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread Matching Grant fundraiser!
Jesus said, "'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.'" (Matt. 13:31-32)
As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's ongoing response to hunger in communities across the United States and the Caribbean, Christ Lutheran Church's Food Pantry is again partnering with our parent denomination to raise funds through an ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread Matching Grant. In the past CLC's Pantry has been fortunate to receive several Daily Bread Grants, which have been used for direct Pantry support. Funds raised through this Daily Bread Grant, however, are planned for a different purpose: we want to buy a commercial refrigerator! In addition, we want to sponsor two of our members in obtaining DC food handling certification.
We are so excited to think of the possibility of fulfilling these longtime pantry goals! We increasingly need a way to safely store and handle fresh produce - and we hope in the future to expand our Pantry's offerings to include additional perishables.
The goal for our Daily Bread refrigerator appeal is $2,170 (in addition to the $500 Daily Bread Grant). This is a lot of money, at a time when the needs around the world are great. But Jesus told the story of the mustard seed, reminding us that the smallest hope, the smallest gift, coupled with the Holy Spirit, can mushroom into something beyond our imagining. The ELCA will return all funds raised via this site to our congregation, plus the $500 grant.
With your help we hope to raise the $2,170 so we might better serve our Partner Arms families. We have through Sunday, June 19 to reach our goal.
With thanksgiving for our congregation's generosity in the past, and with fervent hope for the pantry's future, I thank you.
