Following God's Call to Serve in Rwanda
Support my call to serve as a volunteer for the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program!
It is with great excitement that I have accepted the opportunity to serve as a Young Adult in Global Mission volunteer in Rwanda starting in August. I will be one of more than 85 young adults serving on behalf of the ELCA in 11 different country programs around the world!
As part of accepting this call, I am asked to raise money to support my mission and the mission of the YAGM program. Please help me reach my goal by supporting my fundraising efforts with a donation today. Through your donation, you join me on this journey as I grow in my own faith and walk in partnership with our global companions. Furthermore, you support other YAGM as they serve across the globe by helping me to exceed the minimum requirement of $5,000. I am thrilled to think about the ways in which this year will form and transform me.
Thank you for joining me and for your support – every gift truly matters and makes a difference!
In my year abroad, I will be serving the Lutheran Church of Rwanda in numerous ways, one of which may be teaching English. God has filled me with a passion for teaching and a desire to venture from my comfort zone to learn about myself and His people. When I found this program, I thought to myself, "What better way to accomplish both of these desires than serving through the YAGM program?" I am unbelievably thankful to have been accepted into this program and given the chance to serve and learn from the Rwandan people. Please consider joining me on this journey and supporting me to follow the call God has placed on my heart.
About Young Adults in Global Mission
The ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program provides young adults, ages 21-29, the opportunity to grow in their faith and work in partnership with our global companions. Young adults in the program serve in churches, schools and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina/Uruguay, Australia, Cambodia, Central Europe, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom.
The total cost for one young adult in the program is $15,000. Each young adult is tasked with raising a minimum of $5,000 to help support their year of service. The ELCA commits to raising the additional $10,000 per volunteer through generous congregations and donors. If more than $5,000 in gifts is received, the additional funds will be help to support other young adult volunteers and ensure that there is a sustainable source of revenue for future the Young Adults in Global Mission program. Believe it or not, another Eleva-Strum alumni is also going abroad through this program next year - John Baynton! He's going to central Europe for the year. To find his profile, go to support.elca.org, click on "Donate" and search for his last name. If you know him or are from the Eleva-Strum school district, I'd ask that you consider supporting John as well.
As I prepare myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually for this year, I could definitely use some prayer! Please pray for my fellow YAGM who are also preparing themselves to give a year of their lives to serve in the way that God has called them. Please pray for my preparation - that I learn enough and from reliable sources. Additionally, that I may find peace in this time of eager waiting and anxious contemplation of my future. I believe that prayer is powerful and can change the world. Thank you for praying for me!
