The Journey Begins--Kasey is Going to Madagascar!
It is with immense excitement that I have accepted the call to serve as a Young Adult in Global Mission volunteer in Madagascar starting in August. I will be one of more than 85 young adults serving on behalf of the ELCA in 11 different country programs around the world!
As part of accepting this call, I am asked to raise at least $5,000. However, since this is a year that is going to stretch and challenge me, I want to start if off by stretching and challenging myself to raise $15,000, which is the full cost for the year. Please help me reach this goal by supporting my fundraising efforts with a donation today. Contribute whatever you are able--no amount is too small (and no amount is too big!). When you donate, feel free to let me know if you are donating in honor of a specific day (or week or month!). I plan to make a calendar to bring with me and I would love to add your names to days throughout the year as reminders of all the people I have surrounding and praying for and thinking of me. Through your donation, you join me on this journey as I grow in my own faith and walk in partnership with our global companions. I am thrilled to think about the ways in which this year will form and transform me and I am so excited that you all will be a part of that journey.
Thank you for joining me and for your support. Every gift truly matters!
My paternal grandparents served as missionaries in Madagascar for twenty-five years and my parents lived in Madagascar for a year teaching English. I am thrilled and honored to accept this call and continue in my family's tradition of international service. Although this will be my first trip to the island, Madagascar has always been present in my life through stories and songs, artwork and food (in our house, we rarely ate a meal without rice). It is a place that has helped to shape my family, as well as my own interests and understandings of the world, and I can't wait to finally be able to experience it for myself. Beyond my family connection to the island, I feel called to serve in Madagascar because of my passion for education, my love of learning new languages, my desire to work closely with churches, and my resilience and flexiibility. This year will have its challenges and obstacles and times when nothing seems to work out but I also know it will have its joys and opportunities and days when the world will seem limitless. I can't wait.
About Young Adults in Global Mission
The ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program provides young adults, ages 21-29, the opportunity to grow in their faith and work in partnership with our global companions. Young adults in the program serve in churches, schools and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina/Uruguay, Australia, Cambodia, Central Europe, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom.
The total cost for one young adult in the program is $15,000. Each young adult is tasked with raising a minimum of $5,000 to help support their year of service. The ELCA commits to raising the additional $10,000 per volunteer through generous congregations and donors. If more than $5,000 in gifts is received, the additional funds will be help to support other young adult volunteers and ensure that there is a sustainable source of revenue for future the Young Adults in Global Mission program. 100% of the donations received go directly toward the support of the volunteers.
