40 Days of Giving: A Lenten Journey

The connection between faith, worship and justice was central for Martin Luther. His concern for the poor and his sharp rebuke of economic injustice lays the foundation for us today to see the many ways our faith calls us to strive for justice in our world. On Wednesday evenings during Lent at 7:00pm we'll worship and reflect on how God's self-giving love transforms us and challenges us to work towards a more just and moral society. In addition to weekly discussion groups, we encourage all members of Messiah to additionally participate through the use of a corresponding daily devotional calendar to reflect upon economics, hunger hope and faith throughout the weeks of Lent. Finally, we encourage all Messiah members to give towards ELCA World Hunger, with the hope that we can reach our fundraising goal of $250 by Easter!

About ELCA World Hunger

As a long-standing presence in communities in nearly 60 countries, including the United States, ELCA World Hunger is deeply relational and rooted in listening. We steer clear of “one-size-fits-all” answers and have enormous respect for local context, local expertise and local ingenuity. Your gifts support tailored solutions – in areas like health, water, income, education, food security, and more – that can put an end to hunger for the long term.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States with more than 3.8 million members in 10,000 congregations across the nation and the Caribbean.
